Dangerous stunts

Opinion:
Child labor and abuse of children under the 14 years remains focus item in India despite the fact that laws exist to combat such practices. Parents who cannot provide the care and upbringing of their children are often forced to outsource. The middle class lives in the belief that they are helping the children, because food, clothing and shelter are given. In reality this is exploitation of cheap labor. Working minors are making long hours and days without a defense against their exploitation. They miss their carefree childhood. They do not know better. For me it is clear that their living conditions can be counted to a disaster. These kids really deserve a childhood and future.

In response to a petition filed in court by the Indian Child Movement, The Indian Supreme Court has ordered circuses to cease the use of underage children. This is about saving children who perform dangerous stunts such as high-wire acrobatics without a safety net. This stringent employment (training) at young age (children under 14 years) had been previously banned by India's Child Labour Act. Arguments as training from young age and crucial for developing skills could not affect the court's decision. The child welfare department has the task to identify these children and make arrangements for their care and upbringing as the parents are unable to do so.
